Dance is hard, and the (often) silent pressures to look a certain way and be better than the person next to you makes dance even harder.
Whether it be staring at ourselves in a mirror all day, comparing ourselves to the dancer next to us, or measuring ourselves up to the conventional standards of what a dancer should look like, dance can really take a toll on your self esteem. When delivered by a teacher or coach (or through one's internal voice), statements like, "You're too muscular," "You're too tall," and "Your feet don't point enough," can easily transform from small comments, into core beliefs about oneself. How quickly a student's confidence and love for dance can be shattered by a three-word phrase that has nothing to do with their dancing, and everything to do with aesthetics... |
Created by two professional dancers themselves who are no strangers to the pressures of the dance world, BTM was created to offer a safe environment for dancers to explore their self-confidence, build resilience,
and appreciate the bodies they are in by helping them find freedom in creative and introspective capacities. |
Our MissionOur mission is to offer a comprehensive educational workshop on what it means to pursue dance in a healthier way. Through partnering with health professionals, along with integrating lessons on confidence and body image into our verbiage, and technical instruction in the classroom, we provide dancers with the tools they need to not only excel, but to recognize their strengths and value beyond the mirror.
